PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore right handed pitcher Brian Dupra of Notre Dame has been named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, while St. John’s junior centerfielder Brian Kemp has been tabbed the BIG EAST Player of the Week.
Kemp hit .636 (14 for 22), scored 12 runs and had 10 RBI to lead St. John’s to a three-game sweep of Rutgers and help the Red Storm to a 4-1 week. He had at least two hits and scored two runs in all five games and drove in nine runs in the three-game series against the Scarlet Knights. Kemp keyed the Red Storm’s come-from-behind win in game one of the doubleheader against Rutgers on April 4. The junior knocked in an RBI in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings in an 11-10 win in 10 innings.
Dupra threw a complete-game, three-hit shutout on April 4 to help the Fighting Irish to a 4-0 win against Villanova as part of a three-game sweep of the Wildcats. Dupra, who faced just four batters over the minimum, didn’t allow the Wildcats to get past second base, and struck out six with no walks to register Notre Dame’s first complete-game shutout since March 23, 2007.
