IRVING, Texas—Shaver Hansen (Baylor) and T.J. Walz (Kansas) have been tabbed Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the games of March 30-April 5, in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is the first weekly honor for both student-athletes.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Shaver Hansen, Baylor, SS, Jr., 6-0, 185, Grand Junction, Colo./Fruita Monument

Hansen tied a Baylor single-game record with three home runs at Kansas on Sunday, becoming the fifth player in school history to accomplish the feat and the third to do so in a Big 12 contest. Overall, the Bears recorded eight homers in the series finale to tie a single-game school record while compiling the most in a game for Baylor in the Big 12 era. Hansen hit safely and homered in four of five games on the week. He also has hit home runs in six of his last 10 games. The junior shortstop began the week going 1-for-4 with a solo home run against Texas State on Tuesday. Hansen followed that performance with a 2-for-2 outing along with two home runs, two runs scored and a walk versus Prairie View A&M on Wednesday. In the KU series opener on Friday, Hansen posted a double and a run scored to extend his hitting streak to eight games.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK

T.J. Walz, Kansas, RHP, So., 6-0, 149, Omaha, Neb./Skutt

Walz recorded a complete-game shutout against No. 7 Baylor at Hoglund Ballpark on Saturday. He became the fifth Big 12 pitcher to do so this season, and second in a conference game. Walz allowed three hits and just one walk over nine innings and struck out six Bears to earn his third victory of the season. The Omaha, Neb. native allowed one-out singles in the second and fourth innings, and then did not allow another hit until Dustin Dickerson’s lead-off single in the ninth. Baylor did not advance a base runner past second against Walz. The sophomore righty also retired the lead-off hitter in eight of the nine innings he pitched. He became the second Jayhawk to throw a complete-game shutout this season, joining junior Shaeffer Hall, who tossed a no-hitter on Feb. 20.
