Norfolk State second basemen Anselmo Cantu earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Monday. Delaware State’s Dan Perkins and Bethune-Cookman’s Eric Thomas were named the Co-Pitchers of the Week, while B-CU’s Peter O’Brien earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Cantu (2B, 6-0, Sr., Virginia Beach, Virginia) batted .409 (9-of-22) to aid the Spartans to a 3-3 record last week. The senior tallied four home runs, one double, eight runs and nine RBI. Cantu added four stolen bases, four walks, 11 putouts and 16 assists during the six-game stretch.

Perkins (P, 6-4, Sr., Newark, Delaware) completed the week with a 0.00 ERA along with 13 strikeouts in nine innings. He threw two innings of scoreless relief against Delaware and allowed only two hits while striking out two of the eight batters he faced. In a win over Coppin State, Perkins struck out a career-high 11 batters in seven innings of action.

This is the third straight week that Perkins has earned Pitcher of the Week accolades.

Thomas (P, 6-0, Sr., Gainesville, Florida) posted a 0.00 ERA in eight innings for the Wildcats last week. Against Florida Gulf Coast, Thomas pitched one inning of relief and struck out all three of the batters he faced. In a win over North Carolina A&T, he pitched a four-hit shutout while allowing two walks and striking out 10 batters.

O’Brien (C, 6-3, Fr., Miami Gardens, Florida) batted .636 in 11 appearances at the plate to aid the Wildcats to a 4-0 mark last week, including a conference sweep of North Carolina A&T. O’Brien posted two doubles and four RBI with seven hits and four runs. He added 15 putouts and one assist during the North Carolina A&T series.
