Georgia Tech 6 Miami (FL) 4
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Zach Von Tersch worked five solid innings, and No. 3 Georgia Tech (18-3, 8-1 ACC) smacked three home runs to down No. 2 Miami (19-7, 7-4 ACC), 6-4, Saturday night at Alex Rodriguez Park.
Five of Tech’s six runs came off homers by Derek Dietrich, Luke Murton and Tony Plagman, and the Yellow Jackets have hit eight home runs in the series against the Hurricanes. Seventeen of Tech’s 19 runs this weekend have come off the long ball.
Von Tersch (5-1) held Miami to two runs on four hits while striking out seven to pick up his fifth win of the season. The junior right-hander faced just two over the minimum through the first four innings of the game.
Virginia 5 North Carolina 2
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Andrew Carraway (Sr., Marietta, Ga.) pitched seven strong innings, and Steven Proscia (Fr., Suffern, N.Y.) and Jarrett Parker (So., Stafford, Va.) each homered as the No. 8 Virginia baseball team picked up a 5-2 win over No. 5 North Carolina Saturday at Boshamer Stadium. The series is now even at a game apiece heading into the Sunday finale at 1 p.m.
Carraway (4-0) was brilliant on the mound, working seven innings and giving up one earned run, three hits and a walk while striking out three. Matt Packer (Jr., Germantown, Tenn.) pitched the final two innings to close out the game. Adam Warren (3-2) started for North Carolina and tossed 6.2 innings, allowing four earned runs and eight hits while fanning five.
Virginia used a pair of two-run innings in the fifth and sixth innings to break a scoreless tie. Dan Grovatt (So., Tabernacle, N.J.) broke out of a recent slump with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate. Proscia and Parker each added two hits, while John Hicks (Fr., Sandy Hook, Va.) had a single to extend his hitting streak to nine games. Dustin Ackley homered and had half of North Carolina’s four hits.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Following a lengthy delay that spanned over 13 hours and 41 minutes, Florida State (14-8, 4-4 ACC) evened its ACC record with a 6-2 victory over Maryland (11-13, 3-7 ACC) on Saturday morning in the resumption of Friday night’s series opener. With the win, the 22nd-ranked Seminoles extended their win streak to four games while picking up their first road win of the season.
Sean Gilmartin and Geoff Parker combined to shut down the Terrapins over nine innings giving up a combined three hits as the Seminoles registered their 34th straight victory over Maryland and 23rd win in a row in College Park.
Gilmartin moved to 5-1 on the year as the freshman southpaw worked five innings on Friday night before the game was postponed due to rain. Gilmartin allowed just two runs on two hits as he walked two and struck out six. It marked the fifth straight start that Gilmartin has registered six or more strike outs.
Game 2: Florida State 10 Maryland 2
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Florida State (15-8, 5-4 ACC) tied a season-high with three home runs on Saturday afternoon in game two as the 22nd-ranked Seminoles defeated Maryland (11-14, 3-8 ACC) 10-2 on a misty, cold, cloudy day in College Park. The Seminoles won their fifth game in a row, while extending their win streak over the Terrapins to 35 straight games. In the process, FSU recorded its 24th consecutive victory on Maryland’s home turf.
“I was just very pleased with the approach we took to the two games,” said head coach Mike Martin. “We got out here and really got after it and played like Seminoles. It made us all very pleased to see us come out here and play like we did.”
The Seminoles posted 14 hits on Saturday while tying a season-high with three home runs including two in the first two innings. James Ramsey had a perfect day at the plate going 3-for-3 with a two singles and a home run. He would reach base on all five plate appearances drawing a pair of walks in the win.
Virginia Tech 11 NC State 7
RALEIGH, N.C. – The Virginia Tech baseball team used another prolific offensive performance on Saturday to defeat N.C. State 11-7 in ACC action at Doak Field. The game was the first of a scheduled double-header after rain postponed Friday’s game, but game two was also postponed due to rain and the two squads will now play two on Sunday beginning at noon.
The Hokies pounded out 18 hits to record their 12th double-digit hit game of the year and their sixth with 18 hits or more. They also moved to 11-0 when scoring at least 10 runs and improved their overall record to 15-8 (3-6 in the ACC).
Five Hokies had multiple hits in the game, with right fielder Austin Wates and catcher Anthony Sosnoskie recording three apiece and second baseman Michael Seaborn and third baseman Ronnie Shaban each tallying a career-high four. While Sosnoskie hit his sixth home run of the season, it was Shaban who had the big day, recording four RBIs to go with his first collegiate home run and a double. Domecus extended his hitting streak to 16 games, while Wates pushed his streak to 10 games.
Duke 3 Wake Forest 1
DURHAM, N.C. – Christopher Manno scattered two hits and one run over 6.1 innings and struck out eight batters to lead Duke to a 3-1 win over Wake Forest Saturday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field.
Manno (2-3) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before the Demon Deacons (11-11, 1-9 ACC) finally got their first hit of the game. The eight strikeouts were a season high for Manno, who got four called punchouts and struck out the side in order in the third inning.
Manno retired the first 10 batters he faced and walked just two batters before handing the game over to relievers Dennis O’Grady and Alex Hassan, who closed out the win by shutting out Wake Forest over the final three innings. O’Grady scattered two hits over two innings, while Hassan closed the door in the ninth to earn his sixth save of the season. The save was also the 11th of Hassan’s career, moving him into a tie for third place on Duke’s all-time list alongside David Darwin and Ryan Jackson.
