PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore right handed pitcher Corey Baker of Pittsburgh was tabbed the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, while junior first baseman Tim Morris of St. John’s was named the BIG EAST baseball Player of the Week.

Morris helped St. John’s to a 3-0 start in BIG EAST play as the Red Storm swept their season-opening series against Villanova. The junior hit .600 (12-for-20) with four doubles, a home run and eight RBIs in five games last week. Morris has hit safely in 17 of 18 games this season, including all five last week as the Red Storm went 4-1.

Baker spun a six-hit complete-game shutout in Pittsburgh’s 5-0 win against Cincinnati on March 21 to help the Panthers take two-of-three from the Bearcats in the BIG EAST series. Baker didn’t allow an extra-base hit and walked just one batter while striking out five to improve to 3-0 on the year.
