CBB Spotlight Series: Oklahoma State Tourney Day 3 Recap

Cal-State Fullerton 4 Rhode Island 3

Stillwater, OKlahoma – Tyler Pill’s pinch-hit double in the seventh inning tied the game, and Khris Davis’ sac-fly won it for the Titans in the eighth as No. 6 Cal State Fullerton came back to beat Rhode Island, 4-3, in the final game of the Oklahoma State Tournament Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Field.

The Titans improve to 13-3 on the year and complete their 11-day, 8-game road trip with a 7-1 record with wins over nationally-ranked Texas A&M and Oklahoma State to their credit. They swept the 2-game series with the Rams and now return to Fullerton for a three-game set with Oral Roberts.

Freshman right-hander Noe Ramirez (3-0) picked up his third win of the year fanning a season high eight Rams along the way. Ryan Ackland and Michael Morrison each worked a scoreless inning with Morrison earning his third save of the year by preserving the one-run lead.

Righty Luke Demko fell to 1-2 on the year allowing the Titans’ eight inning game-winning run.

Rhode Island 5 Oklahoma State 4

STILLWATER, Okla. – Junior Zoey Angulo’s (Miami, Fla.) two-run shot in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as the Rhode Island baseball team upset 11th-ranked Oklahoma State, Sunday evening at Reynolds Stadium. Sophomore starter Chris Pickering (Lincoln, R.I.) struck out five batters and allowed just one run to improve to 2-0 while senior Luke Demko (Gilford, N.H.) earned his third save of the season.

Freshman shortstop Mike LeBel (Quincy, Mass.) finished with two hits, two putouts, three assists and a run for Rhode Island while Angulo added two runs and five putouts in left field.

The win – which is the Rams’ third over a ranked opponent this season – improves Rhody’s record to 8-5. Oklahoma State meanwhile – which entered the game ranked in five national polls: NCBWA (#11), Collegiate Baseball (#12), ESPN/USA Today (#12), Rivals.com (#12) and Baseball America (#19) – drops to 13-4.
