OSU’s David, MU’s Gibson Selected As Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Players of the Week
IRVING, Texas—Kevin David (Oklahoma State) and Kyle Gibson (Missouri) have earned the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, for the games of March 9-15, in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is the first conference weekly award for both student-athletes.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kevin David, Oklahoma State, C/1B, So., 6-1, 203, Baton Rouge, La./Catholic HS
David led OSU to a 4-2 record last week, after hitting .542 (13-for-24) with five doubles, a triple, a home run and 12 RBI. He also scored five runs, walked seven times and compiled a .958 slugging percentage. The Baton Rouge, La. native has hit safely in a career-high eight consecutive games. During the six-game stretch, David collected multiple hits five times. David’s performance was highlighted by a 3-for-5 outing at Arizona on March 10, in which he connected on his first career home run while driving in a career-high four runs.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Kyle Gibson, Missouri, RHP, Jr., 6-6, 202, Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central
Gibson recorded his first career nine-inning shutout as MU defeated No. 1 Texas, 2-0, last Saturday in the opener of the three-game series in Austin. He struck out 11 batters and gave up six hits, improving to 3-1 on the year. Prior to last weekend’s triumph, Gibson has had two seven-inning complete games in his career. Gibson has an ERA of 0.90 on the year, striking out 38 batters in 30.0 innings pitched.
