The College Baseball Blog for the second straight year will be naming a single Player of the Week and a Pitcher of the Week. This award is selected by a vote on by the writers of The College Baseball Blog. This week we honor Daniel Hill of Murray State as our Player of the Week and for the first time ever we have Co-Pitchers of the Week with Stephen Strasburg of San Diego State and Pat Lehman of George Washington sharing the honors.
Daniel Hill of Murray State had a great week where he had a .576 average for the week with five homers and 18 RBI as he led the team to a 5-1 record last week. He also had a slugging percentage of 1.231 and an on-base percentage of .633.
I had to split up the Pitcher of the Week award as I can name Stephen Strasburg the National Pitcher of the Week during every week of the season. He continues with his unbelievable junior season as he picked up a 5-3 win over crosstown rival San Diego. Strasburg pitched eight strong innings while allowing five hits and two earned runs. He continued to dominate his opponents by striking out 18 Toreros batters.
Pat Lehman of George Washington was just as dominate on the mound as he pitched a complete game one hitter including 13 strikeouts against Fairleigh Dickinson in Sunday’s 9-0 victory. Lehman had a no-hitter going until two outs in the bottom of the ninth when Adrian Artidielo got a pinch hit single.
