INDIANAPOLIS — Cleveland State University sophomore Josh Lowe and University of Illinois at Chicago senior Adam Worthington have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of March 2-8.
A native of Sandusky, Ohio, Lowe picks up Batter of the Week accolades after going 6-for-9 with one double, two homers, three runs and six RBI in three games last week.
The outfielder belted a pinch-hit dinger in the ninth inning on Friday at the University of Dayton. He added a 2-for-4 effort on Saturday against the Flyers, and went 3-for-4 with another roundtripper and four RBI in the series finale on Sunday.
Cleveland State is now 2-7 on the season after dropping two of three at Dayton.
A native of Gurnee, Ill., Worthington notches Pitcher of the Week honors after allowing just one earned run over a career-high 7.2 innings on Thursday at Vanderbilt University.
The right-hander, who took a no-decision, allowed just five hits and one walk while striking out a career-best six against the Commodores.
UIC is now 1-9 on the campaign after dropping three of four at Vanderbilt.
Cleveland State heads to Philadelphia for a three-game weekend set. The Vikings face La Salle University on Friday (3:15 p.m. ET), Villanova University on Saturday (Noon) and Temple University on Sunday (Noon).
UIC returns to the diamond on Thursday when it travels to Northwestern University for a 5:05 p.m. contest. The series will continue with single games on Friday (5:05 p.m.) and Saturday (1:05 p.m.).
