NEW ORLEANS – WKU’s Chad Cregar and FIU’s Tom Ebert were named the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, as decided on by the league’s member institutions.
Cregar led an offensive attack that plated 49 runs last week including 34 in a three-game Sun Belt series sweep of highly-regarded ULM. Cregar hit .357 but slugged 1.071 as he sent four of his five hits for extra bases including three home runs. Cregar drove in 10 RBI and scored four more runs in only four games of action (missed one midweek game with injury). In the series against league for ULM, he had two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs scored.
On the season, Cregar is hitting .333 for the Hilltoppers, including a league-leading five home runs and 16 RBI.
Ebert eliminated Troy’s offensive attack in game two of a three-game series between the two teams this past weekend, helping the Golden Panthers shut out an opponent in back-to-back games for the first time since 1995. Ebert was effective in the zone during the outing, as he registered 75 strikes in his 103 pitches thrown. The junior went the distance, allowing just four hits and striking out nine.
On the season, Ebert remains perfect on the mound after making two starts this season for a 2-0 record and .00 ERA. The Fargo, N.D. native has only allowed six hits, while recording 18 strikeouts over 15.2 innings of work.
