#4 Texas 6 at #23 Stanford 2
The Texas Longhorns got a complete-game effort from Chance Ruffin and three hits apiece from Travis Tucker and Brandon Belt to post a 6-2 win over the Stanford Cardinal at Sunken Diamond on Friday.
Ruffin (3-0) scattered four hits and three walks while striking out seven over 9.0 innings. The sophomore right-hander yielded just one earned run to earn the win.
The Longhorns pounced on the Cardinal in the first inning when leadoff hitter Travis Tucker launched the second pitch of the game into the trees in leftfield.
Texas (11-0) tacked on three more runs in the second inning. Kevin Keyes was plunked by a pitch to start the frame and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by David Hernandez. Connor Rowe drew a walk and Keyes and Rowe moved into scoring position on a double steal. Tucker punched a seeing-eye single through the middle of the infield to plate both runners and balloon the lead to 3-0. Tucker stole second base and moved to third as Stanford catcher Ben Clowe heaved the throw into centerfield. Tucker scored on a throwing error to home on a grounder by Brandon Loy to stake the Horns to a 4-0 lead.
Utah 2 at #7 Texas A&M 7
Brooks Raley picked up his third win of the season on the mound and went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored to lead No. 4 Texas A&M to a 7-2 win over Utah Friday evening before 4,867 fans at Olsen Field.
Raley (3-0) fanned eight and allowed two runs and five hits over six complete innings of work, as the Aggies won their fourth in a row and improved to 10-2 on the year. The Utes saw their three-game win streak snapped as they saw their record even at 5-5.
#11 Oklahoma State 7 vs Oregon State 5
Oklahoma State won its fourth-straight game Friday with a 7-5 triumph over 24th-ranked Oregon State at the Palm Springs Invitational.
With the win, the 11th-ranked Cowboys improved to 8-1 on the season, while Oregon State dropped to 5-3.
Andrew Oliver picked up his third win of the season with a six inning effort against the Beavers. The junior southpaw worked six innings, allowing three runs on six hits, and also collected seven strikeouts. He has now had at least seven strikeouts in each of his three starts this season, and he has also won eight-straight decisions dating back to last season.
