CONWAY, Ark. – The 7th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team won the second game of a two-game non-conference series with Hendrix, 9-4, on Thursday afternoon in Conway to complete the series sweep.
Although UT Tyler (13-3) never trailed in the game, they led Hendrix (6-9) by just three runs, 5-2, going into the eighth inning.
In the top of the eighth, the Patriots had one of their scoring bursts they are becoming known for and put four runners across the plate in the inning.
The Warriors scored two of their own in the bottom of the frame, but it was not enough as UT Tyler left Conway with two wins in two days.
Seniors Paige Hodges (Crowley, La.) and Chad Daleiden (Cave Creek, Ariz.) made up the lion share of UT Tyler’s offense on the day, as the two combined for seven of the Patriots’ nine runs.
Hodges was 2-for-3 on the day with two runs, four RBIs, a double and a homerun, while Daleiden had one hit, two runs, three RBIs and a homerun of his own.
Senior Kendall Fox (Carrollton, Texas) also had a good day at the plate by going 2-for-3 with one run, one double and two walks.
Senior Blake Booher (Lindale, Texas) went seven innings and allowed just two runs off of four hits with nine strikeouts for his third win of the year.
UT Tyler will travel to Abilene on Monday where they will meet Hardin-Simmons at 2 p.m., followed by No. 17 Marietta at 6:30 p.m.
