CONWAY, Ark. – The 7th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team continued to swing the bats well as they topped Hendrix, 9-5, on Wednesday night at Warrior Field in Conway.
UT Tyler (12-3) got off to a slow start in the game and only led 3-1 through five innings. However, in the sixth the Patriots’ bats came alive and churned out five runs in the inning.
Hendrix (6-8) attempted to rally in the bottom of the ninth by scoring three runs, but senior pitcher Beau Ziegler (North Wales, Pa.) came in and quelled the uprising by retiring the final two batters of the game.
Senior Joe Towns (Carrollton, Texas) came up huge for UT Tyler in the game by going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a run and a double.
Senior Brock Lemire (Nederland, Texas) was also a big part of the win, as he scored three of UT Tyler’s nine runs on the night.
Senior Blake Booher (Hurst, Texas) went seven innings on the mound for the Patriots and allowed only one unearned run off of six hits with five strikeouts. With the win, Booher improved to 4-0 on the year.
Both teams will return to Warrior Field in Conway on Thursday to close out the two-game series with a 2 p.m., matinee.
