MINNEAPOLIS – The Salisbury University team baseball remained No. 1 in the second regular-season D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 poll released on March 3.

Salisbury (11-1, 2-1 Capital Athletic Conference) received 16 first-place votes out of 25 and accumulated 601 points. Last week, the Sea Gulls jumped eight places from their preseason poll spot and claimed the top spot for the first-time in program history.

Trinity (Conn.), the reigning national champions, held onto its spot at No. 2 as the Bantams received eight first-place votes and 557 points. Johns Hopkins University (526 points) moved up one spot to No. 3 while Kean University (502 points) used four consecutive victories to jump three spots to No. 4. The top five was rounded out by Heidelberg College (468 points).

Salisbury was one of two teams from the CAC to be represented as St. Mary’s (Md.) College received votes. The Seahawks, who jumped out to a 9-3 start this season and 3-0 in conference, will host SU on March 25 before traveling to Sea Gull Field for a doubleheader on March 26.

SU is slated to play two teams that are ranked in the Top 25 and one team that received votes. The Gulls will travel to No. 20 Christopher Newport University on April 24 and then host the Captains the next day April 25 at Sea Gull Field. On April 28, Salisbury will travel to Baltimore and go up against No. 3 Johns Hopkins. The maroon and gold will close out their regular-season on May 6 with a home contest against Montclair State University which received votes in this week’s poll.

Salisbury is slated to next play on Friday, March 6, at 2:30 p.m. as University of Mary Washington (3-3, 0-3 CAC) travels to Sea Gull Field for a key CAC game.
