The College Baseball Blog for the second straight year will be naming a single Player of the Week and a Pitcher of the Week. This award is selected by a vote on by the writers of The College Baseball Blog. This week we honor Kent Matthes of Alabama as our Player of the Week and Ryan Berry of Rice as our Pitcher of the Week.
Kent Matthes (Alabama) picks up Player of the Week after having an unbelievable week which saw him hit hit .563 (9 for 16) last week with four home runs and 13 RBI. He also hit for the cycle in one game, had two game-winning RBI, including a walk-off 10th-inning blast, and tied the school record with a home run in five straight games. He also scored nine runs and compiled a 1.563 slugging mark in the four games.
Ryan Berry is named our Pitcher of the Week after shutting down the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday night at the Houston College Classic. He pitched a complete game shutout where he only allowed two base hits while striking out 12 batters. The Aggies entered the game in the Top 5 in nearly every major college baseball poll.
