Florida State 8 Auburn 7

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Junior transfer Mike Meschke registered the biggest hit of his young Seminole career with a bases loaded, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to lead fifth-ranked Florida State (5-0) to an 8-7 victory over Auburn (2-3) Thursday night on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. The win kept the Seminoles perfect on the season while extending their win streak against the Tigers to six games.

The Seminoles led by as many as four runs entering the seventh inning before a pair of home runs by Auburn third baseman Joseph Sanders tied the game at seven apiece. Senior Jimmy Marshall (1-0) earned his first victory of the season as he pitched a perfect ninth striking out the side.

“Well, that is one heck of a start to a four-game series,” said head coach Mike Martin. “Auburn is a team that is well respected. We had a great crowd here tonight and it was a heck of a ball game.”

East Carolina 14 Oklahoma State 7

GREENVILLE, N.C. – Freshman Kevin Brandt tossed 6 1/3 innings of shutout relief to spark No. 23 East Carolina’s 14-7 come from behind win over No. 11 Oklahoma State Thursday night at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium.

Trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh with one out, the Pirates (4-0) exploded for eight runs to take a 12-7 lead and never looked back. ECU strung together five consecutive hits, with six straight reaching base before the second out was recorded. Brandon Henderson singles to left-center and Kyle Roller put a shot through the right side. After a Cowboys (4-1) pitching change, the hit barrage continued when Drew Schieber singled to right loading the bases for Trent Whitehead’s two-RBI single to left, drawing the Pirates within one.

Dustin Harrington followed with a RBI single through the left side after an OSU pitching change to knot the game at seven. Jared Avchen drew a walk to put runners loading the bases once again, this time for sophomore Austin Homan who reached on a fielder’s choice plating Whitehead for the go-ahead run. Ryan Wood extended the frame with a single to left that scored Harrington just before Stephen Batts unloaded on a Mark Ginther 0-1 offering to right-center for a three-run shot that put ECU up five, 12-7.
