Yesterday two college baseball legendary figures passed away in Curry College’s Jack Vallely and Cape Cod Baseball League figure John Wylde ironically both men are from Massachusetts.
Curry College’s Jack Vallely coached the baseball program from 1948-1998 never missing a practice or a game. He had a career record of 726-278-4 over his 51 year career. He also served as the school’s basketball coach where he had a career record of 397-77 on the court. Boston Globe writer Marvin Pave has an excellent article profiling Coach Vallely that you can check out by clicking here.
John Wylde was a legendary figure with the Wareham Gatemen influencing many young college kids lives by providing them an opportunity to play in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Wylde over the last few years was stricken with cancer but fought through last summer by steal doing the PA for the Gatemen’s games. Wylde was also a fixture at Harvard Baseball games where he was a graduate of the school but didn’t play baseball instead was a member of the Football, Ice Hockey, and Tennis teams.
