The College Baseball Blog for the second straight year will be naming a single Player of the Week and a Pitcher of the Week. This award is voted on by members of the staff here. We are always welcome to getting nominations from schools around the country. You can send your nominations to us by clicking here. This week we honor Dustin Ackley from North Carolina as our Player of the Week while Schaeffer Hall of Kansas was named our Pitcher of the Week.
Player of the Week: Dustin Ackley (North Carolina)
Junior Dustin Ackley continued his outstanding college career by starting his junior season off with an outstanding weekend. He had 13 official at bats where he had nine hits for a batting average of .692. He scored four runs on the weekend while driving in two. His best game of the weekend was on Sunday when he went 5-5 with two doubles. We named him the 8th best College Baseball player this season and you can check out the article by clicking here.
Pitcher of the Week: Schaeffer Hall
Junior LHP Schaeffer Hall of Kansas is our selection as our pitcher of the week for a complete game no-hitter against Air Force on Friday. He only allowed three walks on the day while striking out seven batters. Hall started the game off rough by walking the first batter he faced but settled down to retire the next 17 batters.

How does LSU’s Ryan Schimpf not get this? Stats:
.700, 6 RBI, 7 Hits, 2 Doubles, 1 HR, 3 runs and no errors
Better competition….I saw Nova last year and to say the pitching for the Wildcats is bad is an understatement.
I also think 9 for 13 is pretty good too!
I could have picked a bunch of guys for this award even picking other pitchers and this guy threw a no-hitter.
ASU’s Jason Kipnis line is other worldly. I understand your competition argument but
12-17, 3 HR, 4 doubles, 1 triple, 11 runs, 8 RBI 2+OPS. Hard to have a better weekend then that, no matter who you play.
Great point….I am going to hold off next week until Wednesday at midnight to announce my player of the week. The press releases from conferences are still coming out on Tuesday so I should wait next week.
The kid from LA Tech is another worthy candiadate.
