The 12th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler baseball team cranked out six homeruns on the day as the Patriots swept a doubleheader with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 7-1 and 9-4, on Saturday at Irwin Field.
Senior Jared Hood (Marshall, Texas) got the hit parade started by blasting two homeruns in game one and one in game two. Hood finished the day by going 5-for-8 with five runs, four RBIs and a double.
Senior Chad Daleiden (Cave Creek, Ariz.) had a multiple homerun game as well on Saturday, as he went 5-for-7 with four RBIs, two runs and two homeruns.
Senior Joe Towns also got in on the action with a two-RBI homerun in game two. Towns also went yard on Friday night against to give him two homeruns in the series.
The Patriots took care of business from the rubber on Saturday as well, as five UT Tyler pitchers combined for 18 strikeouts on the afternoon.
Senior Brett Holland (Lindale, Texas) stuck out seven batters and allowed just one run as he picked up the complete game win in the front half of the doubleheader. Holland is now 2-1 on the season.
In game two, it was senior Blake Booher (Hurst, Texas) who earned the win, as he struck out six and allowed only one run through five innings of work. The win moves Booher to 3-0 on the year.
With the wins, UT Tyler improves to 8-1 on the year, while UMHB falls to 4-6.
The Patriots will close out a season-opening 10-game home stand on Tuesday evening when American Southwest Conference West Division rival Hardin-Simmons comes to Irwin Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
