Late Rally Gets Delta Devils Past Stephen F Austin In Season Opener
The Lumberjack baseball team kept the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils at bay for the majority of the afternoon, but MVSU was able to scrape across a run in the bottom of the ninth to pick up a season-opening 4-3 win over SFA at the rain-soaked ULM Warhawk Classic.
SFA (0-1) got a pair of hits apiece from Tanner Hines and Justin Long, but SFA pitchers hit six MVSU (1-0) hitters and walked another five in aiding the Delta Devil offensive push.

Sam Houston State sweeps doubleheader Saturday
Left fielder Tyler Knight singled to right field with two out in the 10th inning to score Jon Reed as Sam Houston State defeated Creighton 4-3 in the first half of a non-conference baseball doubleheader at Don Sanders Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Bearkats won the nightcap as well, defeating the Bluejays 7-5 to run Sam Houston’s baseball record to 3-0.

Lamar Sweeps Doubleheader From Austin Peay, 4-1 and 16-2
Lamar pushed a run across in each of the first three innings before claiming a 4-1 win in the first game.
Tyler Link opened the game for the Cardinals by working a full count walk. He advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt by Austin Peay starter Stephen Huff. After moving to third on a sac bunt, he came home on a wild pitch to give Lamar a 1-0 lead.
Lamar’s offense came alive in the second game of the twinbill, pounding out 19 hits and scoring 16 runs.
The Cardinals broke through in the third inning with three runs on four hits. Tyler Link doubled off the center field wall to score Brent Harris, who started the rally with a double. Jeremiah Sammy scored on a bloop single by Brian Taylor. Link came home on a bases loaded sacrifice fly by Joey Latulippe.

For the second-straight day, the Nicholls baseball team claimed a double-digit victory, picking up a 13-2 win over Chicago State in the second of a three-game series at Ray E. Didier Field.
The Colonels improve to 2-0 on the season, while the Cougars drop to 0-2.

Sophomore right hander Brandon Efferson struck out nine batters and recorded his first career complete game and the Lion offense exploded for a five run fourth inning as the Southeastern Louisiana University baseball team (1-1) rallied from a four-run deficit to beat Eastern Illinois (1-1) 8-6 for its first win of the season on Saturday.

McNeese State 15 Houston Baptist 2
McNeese State rapped out 21 hits including three home runs as the Cowboys beat Houston Baptist 15-2 for their second straight baseball victory here Saturday.
In a game that featured a one hour and 15 minute rain delay, the Cowboys scored five runs in each of the first two innings to take control.
Righthander Tommy Luce, making his debut for the Cowboys, hurled six innings of four hit, two run ball and struckout eight batters while picking up the win.

Demons fall 12-5 to MVSU on Saturday
The thrill of a 5-run 10th inning that led to Northwestern State’s 8-5 win over Louisiana-Monroe on Friday became a dud on Saturday after the Demons fell 12-5 to Mississippi Valley State on the second day of the Warhawk Baseball Classic.
The Demons (1-1) fell behind early and couldn’t rebound as they managed just eight hits with four of those coming in the sixth though eighth innings.

Texas State Grabs First Win in 8-6 Victory over UT Arlington
Bobcat newcomer Tyler Sibley went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and a game-high three RBI to lift the Texas State Bobcats to its first win of the season, taking an 8-6 victory over tournament host UT Arlington in the Mavericks Hilton Invitational Saturday afternoon at Clay Gould Park.
Sibley launched Texas State’s offense in the top of the second when he belted a double to left field that sent Ben Theriot and Kyle Kubitza across the plate. Theriot led off the inning with a single shot to right and Kubitza reached base on balls.

The University of New Mexico baseball team plated 26 runs and collected 28 hits en route to a doubleheader sweep over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday afternoon at Isotopes Park, 4-1 and 22-1.
Right-hand pitcher Travis Dirk (1-0) tossed six solid innings for the Lobos in Game One. Dirk allowed only four hits and one run while fanning seven.
The Lobos (2-1) struck first in the bottom of the third. Centerfielder Cameron Monger and shortstop Daniel Gonzalez led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Senior Mike Brownstein laid down a textbook bunt to advance the pair. Senior Dane Hamilton followed with a sacrifice fly to left to give UNM the 1-0 advantage.
