ARLINGTON, Texas- UT Arlington center fielder Michael Choice was named to the Baseball America and rivals.com preseason All-Conference list as both publications previewed the Southland Conference. Choice was also named preseason first team All-SLC. Baseball America and rivals.com both had UT Arlington picked to finish eighth in the 12-team SLC.
Choice, the 2008 SLC Freshman of the Year, and UTSA senior Michael Rockett, the 2008 SLC Player of the Year, were the only two outfielders who landed on both preseason all-conference teams.
Following his freshman season Choice was named to five Freshman All-American teams after breaking the all-time UT Arlington freshman batting average record (.376) and leading the Mavericks in home runs (7) and RBI (51).
Choice and the Mavericks open their season hosting Arkansas State on Friday, Feb. 20, at 3 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark in Arlington. The Mavs open their season while hosting the 16th Annual UT Arlington/Hilton Invitational while welcoming Siena and Texas State who round out the tournament field.
