I attended the Texas Orange and White scrimmage today on a beautiful day in Austin Texas. The White team defeated the Orange squad in a seven inning scrimmage behind five strong innings from Taylor Jungmann who picked up the win. Brandon Workman picked up the loss for the Orange team. I have included pictures from the game at the bottom of the press release which is posted below.

AUSTIN, Texas – Four Longhorns’ pitchers combined to allow only one run in a combined 14 innings of work as the White toppled the Orange 1-0 in a seven-inning intrasquad game held in conjunction with the annual Fan Appreciation Day.

Taylor Jungmann worked 5.0 scoreless innings to earn the win for the White. He scattered three runs and three walks while striking out seven. Austin Dicharry earned the save with 2.0 innings of work. He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two.

Brandon Workman was saddled with the loss for the Orange despite allowing just one run on six hits and one walk while striking out four over 5.0 innings. Andrew McKirahan allowed just one hit and struck out two over 2.0 innings of shutout relief.

The White logged seven hits on the day, including two each for freshmen Brandon Loy and Morgan Mickan. Kevin Lusson accounted for the game’s only run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to plate Russell Moldenhauer.

David Hernandez accounted for two of the Orange’s four hits.

Texas opens the 2009 season with a four-game series against Illinois-Chicago beginning on Friday, Feb. 20. First pitch for the opener is slated for 3 p.m.
