The University of Notre Dame baseball team welcomes eight newcomers to the diamond this season. In the coming weeks, UND.com will feature each Irish newcomer leading up to the team’s Feb. 20 season opener against Ohio State. The first Notre Dame player in the spotlight is right-handed pitcher Will Hudgins.

What is your favorite/most memorable sports moment?
I went head to head for nine innings with Deck McGuire, who’s now the #1 pitcher at Georgia Tech, during my junior year of high school. We ended up losing the game, but it was the best baseball game I’ve ever played in.
Are you a fan of the American League’s designated hitter or do you prefer the National League style?
DH is fine, I might hurt myself if I picked up a bat.
Should college baseball switch to wooden bats?
Absolutely yes. Just ask Wade Korpi.
