Jared Mitchell and Chad Jones are both members of the LSU football and baseball teams but receive different treatment from baseball coach Paul Mainieri and football coach Les Miles. Jared Mitchell will be a member of the LSU baseball squad for the entire season and join the football club during summer workouts. Mitchell showed me in a Cape Cod Baseball League that he is an excellent player with great speed. He should be drafted in the upcoming 2009 MLB Draft. Chad Jones has the opposite problem as he will be able to be a member of the LSU baseball program until spring practice for football begins on March 12th. This will leave the Tigers squad short a player since Jones recieved scholarship money from the baseball program and counts against the 35 players limit.
