TAMPA, Fla. – Despite chilling temperatures, the University of South Florida baseball team hit the field for an hour Tuesday afternoon in a warmup for the quickly approaching first day of spring practice.

“The first day of practice is always exciting,” said USF Head Coach Lelo Prado. “We’re only out here today for an hour, but all of the guys are jumping around and are excited for the season.”

The Bulls are allowed two hours of team practice for two weeks before digging into the season on Feb. 1, the official start date of NCAA baseball.

The Bulls open the 2009 season at the BIG EAST – Big Ten Challenge held in Clearwater and St. Petersburg Feb. 20-22. USF’s home opener is Feb. 24 against the Netherland National Team. The first pitch is at 6 p.m. at Red McEwen Field.
