Fullerton, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball Head Coach Dave Serrano announced today that the Titans will celebrate the official start of the 2009 baseball season with and exciting and unique early-morning practice on Feb. 1 at Goodwin Field.

The event will be free and open to all family, friends and fans that wish to compete with the Titans’ stamina.

The Titans will take full advantage of the clock by stepping on the field just after midnight, Sunday morning, the first day college baseball teams are allowed by the NCAA to begin practices. The team will commence with a typical session of individual and team drills that will eventually lead into a 7- to 8-innging scrimmage, carrying the workout into the wee hours of the morning (around 4 a.m.).

The second-year head coach, his coaching staff, and players are all excited at the unusual way to kick off the baseball season and are going into the first day of official practice with a goal in mind.

“We want to be the first team to practice and the last team to play,” Serrano said referring to the team’s intention to be playing in the final game at the College World Series.

“We are all very eager to get things going. We wouldn’t have decided to do this if we didn’t have the maturity as a group to handle it. We as a coaching staff, trust that the quality of practice will be just as high as any other day, and we are all looking forward to this unique opportunity,” Serrano said.

From there, the Titans will have 19 days to prepare for Opening Day, slated for Feb. 20 in Fullerton. The Titans will be hosting the Horned Frogs of TCU in a three-game set. It will be the TCU’s first trip to Goodwin Field.

Don’t forget about the Titan Mailbag. If you have questions for Coach Serrano or his staff about the midnight practice or any other Titan baseball questions, send them to TitanMailbag@yahoo.com. Selected questions will be answered by the coaches in posts on the Titans’ website at fullertontitans.com.
