Freshman left handed pitcher Kyle Long (son of NFL Hall of Famer Howie Long and brother of NFL player Chris Long) has withdrawn from Florida State University after falling behind academically. Long was also a highly touted offensive lineman out of high school but decided to stick to baseball only with his imposing 6’7 and 280 pound frame. He had a .500 batting average with two homers and 24 stolen bases while posting an ERA of 1.91 with 95 strikeouts in 50 innings at St. Anne’s Belfield High School. He was named the 2008 All-Central Virginia Player of the Year. This is a huge loss for the Seminoles as Long was expected to make an immediate impact as on the mound for the Noles. We should see how this impacts the race for the ACC Title in 2009.
