Brooklyn, N.Y. – Long Island University head baseball coach Don Maines announced the 2008 schedule today, with 54 games on the docket. The Blackbirds will kick off the season with a three-game series at Virginia Commonwealth beginning on Feb. 27. Long Island’s schedule also features a trip to the 2009 Palm Beach Challenge.
After a March 1 visit to Viriginia Military Academy and a four-game series at Morehead State from March 6-7, Long Island will head to Palm Beach, Fla., for seven games over five days. The Blackbirds will square off with North Dakota State three times and also take on Pittsburgh, NJIT, Maryland-Baltimore County and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
After returning to New York for a March 25 visit to Army, the Blackbirds will play their first games of the season at LIU Field, hosting Bryant in a four-game series beginning March 27. Long Island will welcome NCAA Tournament teams St. John’s on March 31 and Rider on April 22.
Northeast Conference play kicks off with a four-game series at Monmouth, beginning on April 3. Long Island will host its first conference series on April 10, when defending-champion Mount St. Mary’s visits LIU Field.
The Blackbirds are scheduled to wrap up the season when Quinnipiac visits for a four-game series beginning on May 14. The NEC Tournament is slated to begin on May 21.
