RUSTON — Non-conference contests between three 2008 NCAA tournament regional participants and a four-game series in Ruston against defending National Champion Fresno State highlight Louisiana Tech’s 2009 baseball schedule released by the athletic department on Thursday.

“We are excited to begin the season,” Tech head coach Wade Simoneaux said. “We have a lot of young talent and we are looking forward to having everyone ready to go before the conference season begins.”

The Bulldogs 51 game schedule includes five doubleheaders and each Western Athletic Conference series spans four games.

Tech opens against Grambling State Feb. 20 at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park. Tech will then play at Grambling State Feb. 21 before returning to play at home against Grambling State Feb. 22.

Simoneaux and Co. welcome Eastern Michigan, a 2008 regional participant, to Tech March 6-8 and travel to play two other regional participants, Southern Miss. (March 13-15) and Dallas Baptist (March 26-28). Before the Bulldogs begin conference play, they will take the field at Arkansas-Little Rock March 31.

WAC play will begin at home against Nevada (April 3-5). The Bulldogs will play at San Jose State (April 9-11) and then come home to face Northwestern State April 15 in a non-conference contest. Tech will welcome conference foe Fresno State to Ruston April 17-19.

Prior to the Bulldogs concluding their season at home, the team will play at Sacramento State April 24-27 and at Hawaii April 30-May 3.

Tech will close out the 2009 campaign at home against New Mexico State May 14-16.

In all, 24 of the Bulldogs 51 games will be played on the LA Tech campus.
