Houston – During the recent signing period, the HBU baseball program received a National Letter of Intent from Ben Coram who will join head coach Jared Moon’s team for the 2009-10 academic year.

Coram, a Lake Jackson, Texas native, is currently an infielder at Brazoswood High School. In 2007 and 2008, he was an All-District selection for the Buccaneers as well as a selection to the Brazoria All-County team.

As a junior, Coram batted .368 with four home runs and 24 runs batted in while accumulating a .914 fielding percentage. He has played for the Kyle Chapman summer league team since 2006. Coram was also chosen to attend the Texas Scouts Association Invitational Workout in 2008.

Academically, Coram is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. The last two years, he has participated in PALS (Peer Assistance Leadership Service) and serves on the Student Council.

“We are definitely excited to have Ben,” said Moon. “We expect him to step in and be a solid infielder for us. He is a strong defensive player and offensively he has a good swing and good mechanics. He should improve offensively as he comes in and get stronger. We expect him to be a big part of our program for four years.”
