Bryant announces 8 NLIs for 2010 Season

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University baseball and head coach Jamie Pinzino are pleased to announce the eight student-athletes who have committed to joining the Bulldogs for the 2010 season.

“We are very pleased to have these players as part of the Bryant Baseball program,” said Pinzino. “As our first Division I recruiting class, they will be key in helping us succeed at the next level. They are all talented athletes and strong students and we are excited that Bryant is the right fit for them.”

Here is a look at the eight future Bulldogs:

Tim Bessette LHP L/L 5’10, 185 Waterbury, CT/Holy Cross HS
A competitive left-handed pitcher with good command and a solid breaking ball, Bessette helped lead Holy Cross High School to the Connecticut State Finals in 2008, posting a 7-1 record on the mound. Tim plays summer ball for Waterbury Legion and is a National Honor Society member.

Kevin Brown INF L/R 6’0, 190 Northborough, MA/Algonquin A talented left-handed hitter, Brown will bring athleticism and an offensive presence to the Bulldogs. Brown has helped Algonquin Regional High School to three consecutive Mid-Wach A Championships, a state finals appearance in 2007 and a Massachusetts State Championship in 2006. A two-year captain in both baseball and basketball at Algonquin, Brown hit .485 with 49 hits and 10 home runs for Northboro Legion this summer.

Ryan Granat C R/R 6’4, 215 Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central
Granat is an athletic player with offensive potential to go along with size, speed and arm strength. As a junior, he was named first team all-conference, first team all-county and first team all-group III. He hit .439 with five home runs and 31 RBI during his junior season. Granat plays his summer baseball with the NJ Super 17’s, helping lead the team to a Top-16 finish in the WWBA Championship.

Peter Kelich INF R/R 6’1,180 Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial
Kelich is an instinctive middle infielder with good hands and a strong throwing arm. Kelich guided Jackson Memorial High School to a 41-14 record over the previous two years, while leading the team in fielding percentage both seasons as a shortstop. He played during this past summer for the Baseball U Terminators out of New Jersey.

Kyle Leonard RHP/1B L/R 6’0, 195 North Merrick, NY/ W.C. Mepham
A versatile player with arm strength and a powerful bat to match, Leonard posted a 4-1 record with a 2.21 ERA and 46 strikeouts to help W.C. Mepham to the county semifinals. Leonard recorded a 12-3 record with a 1.98 ERA on the mound and batted .426 with six homeruns for the Long Island Titans this summer. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Sal Lisanti RHP R/R 6’2,2 Bronx, NY/Fordham Prep
A polished pitcher with command of three pitches and good mound presence, Lisanti posted a 5-3 record with a 1.36 ERA and 47 strikeouts in 40 innings pitched at Fordham Prep. He is a National Honor Society member and plays his summer baseball for the New York Nine, where he helped lead the team to a championship in the Perfect Game Northeast Qualifier.

Joe Michaud RHP R/R 6’4,175 Milford, CT/J.A. Foran
A tall, athletic pitcher with a moving fastball and a strong breaking ball, Michaud was a key factor in J.A Foran’s run to the Connecticut Class M Semifinals in 2008. Michaud posted a 4-2 mark on the hill this summer for Milford Legion, helping lead the team to a 17-12 overall record with his play both on the mound and as an infielder.

Dan Muscatello INF S/R 5’10,155 Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton
A sure-handed switch-hitting infielder, Muscatello was named a TVL All-Star in 2008, helping lead Hopkinton to a TVL Championship with a 19-3 record. Muscatello plays his summer baseball for Milford Legion, where the team reached the state tournament in 2007 and 2008. Dan’s brother, Dave, is a 2008 Bryant University graduate and was the starting second baseman for the Bulldogs in 2007 and 2008.
