Four standouts – one a local – have been signed to early scholarships by the McNeese State baseball program.
Blake Ellender, who is a native of Sulphur and is playing at Northeast Texas College this season, signed with the Cowboys along with Taylor Ducoff of Houston’s St. Pius High School, Tyler Park of Cisco Junior College and Phillip Parcell of Eastern Oklahoma College.
Ducoff and Parcell are pitchers, Ellender is an outfielder and Park an infielder.
“These are four quality players who will come in next year (2010 season) and help fill some of the needs that we will have,” McNeese head coach Terry Burrows said. “We are excited to get them and look forward to them joining us.”
Parcell is a left handed pitcher who posted a 3.18 ERA last year at Eastern Oklahoma, striking out 25 batters in 17 innings and holding opponents to a .226 batting average. He’s out of Kingfisher, OK but did play his freshman year of high school ball at Sam Houston High.
Ducoff is a right handed pitcher and earned all-district and all-state honors the past two seasons. He has compiled a 26-8 all-time prep pitching record and set a school record by winning 10 games as a freshman at St. Pius High.
Ellender earned all-state, all-district and all-Southwest Louisiana honors during his prep career at Sulphur High. A year ago in his first season at Northeast Texas, he batted .311 with 11 doubles and 18 RBIS. He also had an on base percentage of .451 and led his team in steals with 24 (out of 32 attempts).
Park plays shortstop at Cisco JC and last year batted .383 with 13 doubles, six triples and 29 RBIs. He also stole 18 bases and has been selected to play in the Texas junior college all-star game.
