Lamar head coach Jim Gilligan has announced the signing of five student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent for the 2009-10 academic year.
The quintet includes two infielders, one outfielder and a pair of pitchers, with all five coming from Texas high schools and junior colleges.
Jonathan Dziedzic stands 6-2 and is a left-handed pitcher at Atascocita High School who went 9-1 with a 1.94 earned run average as a junior, while striking out 69 in 54 innings. He picked up a number of honors including all-State, all-Greater Houston and was a First Team all-District 21-5A choice as a sophomore and junior.
Clayton Farhat is a 6-0 outfielder from Plano, Texas currently at Navarro College. He hit .330 with five home runs, 24 RBIs and 18 steals as a freshman at Angelo State. He led Plano East HS to the 2007 District 9-5A championship while picking up district MVP honors after hitting .468 with six home runs and 28 RBIs.
Trey Rackel is a 6-2 right-handed combo pitcher and infielder who is in his sophomore season at Angelina Junior College. He was named to the Region XIV All-Conference team and invited to the Texas Junior College All-Star Game following his 9-2, 3.20 ERA freshman season. He attended Mayde Creek HS in Houston where he was an All-District 19-5A pick.
Pablo Salinas is a 5-11 infielder from League City, Texas, who had a standout freshman season at Alvin JC. He hit .443 and belted 10 homers in leading Alvin to the JUCO World Series. He earned All-America, All-Conference and All-Region and played in Texas JUCO All-Star Game with Rackel.
Jude Vidrine is a 6-2 infielder at Nederland HS who garnered All-District honors as a junior after hitting .340 with three home runs, 28 RBIs and 10 doubles. He has also been a standout wide receiver for the Bulldog football team.
