GREENVILLE, S.C. — Furman head baseball coach Ron Smith today announced the signing of six players to national letters of intent, including a trio of Upstate products.
Catcher/first baseman Paul Nitto of Greenville’s J.L. Mann High School along right handed pitcher Dylan Cole and shortstop Will Muzika of Spartanburg’s Dorman High School are among the Paladins’ six signees. The other three recruits inking with Furman include right-handed pitcher Matt Plate of Mount Pisgah Christian High School in Alpharetta, Ga., centerfielder Jake Kline of Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh, N.C., and Nate Smith, a left-hander pitcher from Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio.
Furman posted a 33-24 record and won a school record 13 straight Southern Conference games on the way to a third place league regular season finish in 2008 under Smith, who is now in his 15th year as head coach at Furman.
The Paladins open the 2009 campaign on Feb. 20 at home against Ball State.
