The CBB continues our countdown to the 2009 College Baseball season with our Top 50 players to watch. We will be providing one player each day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today with Junior Gavin Brook from UCLA checking in at the 45th spot in our countdown. He is a 6’3 210 pound left handed pitcher from Vista California where he attended high school at Rancho Buena Vista.
He has struggled since arriving at UCLA with a sophomore season where he went 6-3 with a 5.07 ERA with 14 starts where he ended up pitching 71 innings. His freshman campaign saw him go 6-7 with a 4.47 ERA in 110.2 innings.
The main reason for Gavin’s trouble during his first two seasons with the Bruins is the fact that he entered college coming off a torn rotator cuff which hurt his draft status out of high school. He was still named the 33rd best player out of high school by TeamOneBaseball.com. Our assistant editor Mark Rafferty saw Brooks pitch in the 2008 Fullerton Regional. The full report is available by clicking here. I think that Brooks will be able to come back full strength during the 2009 season to become one of the best players in the country.
