TAMPA – After the first game of the University of South Florida Fall Baseball World Series was halted at a 4-4 tie in the 10th on Wednesday, the Grey Team took Game Two by a score of 16-4 Thursday night at Red McEwen Field.

“We really came out and swung the bats,” said Grey team coach Charles Cleveland. “Then we got that big 10-run inning that let us relax a little bit.”

Tied 3-3 in the fifth inning, the Green team’s bats exploded for 10 runs on seven hits and four errors by the Green squad.

“It was a good game early, as good things happened on both sides of the ball,” said Green Team coach Bryant Ward. “Then, we couldn’t play catch and some alignments went bad, but that is kind of a good thing because we will see if we have what it takes to bounce back on Sunday.”

The Grey team was led by sophomore Junior Carlin who went 3-4 and scored two runs, both of which came in the 10-run fifth. Redshirt freshman Ian MacGeorge finished the scoring in the fifth with a three run homerun.

Sophomore Steven Hunt led the Green team going 3-for-4 with a double.

Pitchers Derrick Stultz and Matt Quevedo each gave up three runs on four hits and two walks in three innings pitched. Stultz stuck out five, while Quevedo fanned two.

Freshman pitcher Adrian Puig had a big night, throwing three shutout innings late in the game.

“Puig did an awesome job,” said Cleveland. “He is a young guy in a tough situation. All we wanted him to do was throw strikes and that is what he did. It was a huge outing for him.”

The Green team’s lineup on Thursday, by batting order, was as follows: Peter Brotons, 2B; Daniel Rockhold, 3B; Stephen Hunt, RF; Chris Rey, CF; Sean Buckley, 1B; Andrew Longley, C ; Ryan Garcia, DH; Zach Rios, LF; Andrew Robinson, SS; Matt Quevedo, P. Relievers included Trey Dahl and Kyle Eastham.

The Grey team’s batting order and lineup was: Mike Consolmagno, RF; Junior Carlin, CF; Jonathan Koscso, 3B; Todd Brazeal, 1B; Trey Manz, C; Sam Mende, SS; Ian MacGeorge, LF; Jordan McGillis, 2B; Shawn Sanford, DH; Derrick Stultz P. Relievers included Matt Reed and Adrian Puig.

The Bulls will play the next game of the series on Sunday at 6 p.m., and in the case of a series tie, Game One will be completed Sunday night.
