NORMAN, Okla. — Freshman outfielder Chris Ellison is highlighted in the fourth installment of SoonerSports.com’s Baseball Newcomer Spotlights.

In preparation for the 2009 season, Soonersports.com will help fans get to know the new faces around the diamond at L. Dale Mitchell Park.

Ellison is one of five players from the 2009 recruiting class that hails from the state of Oklahoma. The speedy outfielder lettered four years at Norman North High School before signing with the Sooners.

Throughout the rest of the semester, SoonerSports.com will feature one of the Sooners’ 15 newcomers that will join a group of 18 letterwinners from the 2008 team that advanced to the Tempe Regional Finals before falling to then-No. 4 Arizona State.

Each spotlight will include an updated bio, Q&A session and videos of each player in action from the Red/White Series and a scouting report from OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.

Ellison was named a Rawlings Preseason All-American prior to his senior season. In 2008, Ellison hit .432 with four homers en route to earning all-state honors.

The Sooner also pitched for the Timberwolves but will focus on roaming the outfield for OU in the spring. Ellison played primarily in centerfield during the Red/White Series in the fall and is expected to compete for time alongside Casey Johnson and Jamie Johnson in 2009.
