Reno, Nev. – The blue team defeated the white squad 7-5 on Friday morning in game two of the University of Nevada baseball teams Blue versus White series that will conclude fall practice. The blue team won Thursday’s contest 16-8 and now hold a 2-0 lead in the five-game series that resumes on Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Peccole Park. All games are free and open to the public.
Junior left-hander Chris Garcia silenced the white team’s bats pitching four innings of one-hit shutout baseball to earn the win. Senior reliever Sammy Miller pitched two shutout innings to earn the save. Right-hander Tony Fagan was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs in three innings of work.
Offensively the blue squad was again led by senior third baseman Tyson Jaquez who was 1-for-2 with a two run homer. Jaquez also walked twice and scored two runs. Right fielder Aaron Henry hit two doubles in his four plate appearances and scored two runs. Both of Henry’s hits were doubles. First baseman Joe Wallace was 1-for-3 in the game with the hit being an RBI triple.
For the blue squad right fielder Bret Hart hit a three-run homer going 2-for-2 at the plate. Hart’s other hit was a double giving him two extra base hits in the game.
Starters for Monday’s third game are slated to be right-handed junior transfer Dan Tinlin for the blue team while freshman right-hander Jason McClaren is scheduled to start for the white squad.
