The North Carolina Central Eagles have released their 2009 baseball schedule. Head Coach Henry White and the Eagles open the season at the HBCU Classic in Savannah, Georgia (Feb. 20-22). From there, the Eagles will play a two game mid-week set at Davidson (Feb. 24-25) before returning to Durham for the home opener against Saint Augustine’s (Mar. 1).
A ten game homestand continues with four mid-week games: a doubleheader against Norfolk State (Mar. 4) and a doubleheader against Longwood (Mar. 5). NCCU’s first home weekend series will be against Savannah State (Mar. 7-8). The homestand concludes with weekday games against Coppin State (Mar. 10) and Campbell (Mar. 11).
The Eagles then hit the road for a game against Winthrop (Mar. 12) and a doubleheader at North Carolina A&T (Mar. 14). North Carolina A&T travels back to Durham to face NCCU on their homefield in a single game the following day (Mar. 15). A pair of mid-week games against North Carolina State (Mar. 17) and UNC-Wilmington (Mar. 18) are next on the schedule for the Eagles. After that, a three game weekend series at Savannah State (Mar. 21-22) awaits NCCU.
Next on the schedule will be weekday home games against Gardner-Webb (Mar. 24) and Virginia State (Mar. 25). After an off weekend, the Eagles will square off with cross-town foe Duke (Mar. 31) for a mid-week matchup.
The Eagles will then have to navigate a fifteen game roadtrip. The roadtrip starts with a two game weekend set at Florida A&M (April 4-5). The Eagles will then travel to Duke (April 7) and visit Longwood (April 9) for a doubleheader. The following day NCCU will make a return trip to Virginia State (April 10) for a single game. The roadtrip continues as the Eagles play a single game against Coppin State (April 13), a doubleheader against Delaware State (April 14), and a doubleheader against Norfolk State (April 15). After playing five games in three days, NCCU will take a day off before travelling to Elon for a two-game series (April 17-18). The three week long roadtrip will close with mid-week trips to Campbell (April 20) and Gardner-Webb (April 22).
After not having a home game in more than three weeks, the Eagles will gladly welcome Florida A&M (April 23-24) to Durham for a two game set. NCCU will then play single road games at UNC-Wilmington (April 28) and North Carolina State (May 3). A three game set at Maryland Eastern Shore (May 8-9) wraps up the regular season slate for the Eagles.
