NATCHITOCHES – Barbier’s Bombers took a 2-1 lead in the Demon World Series Classic after Sunday’s 10-7 win over Kelly’s Heroes.

After dominating pitching performances in game two, the bats awoke on Sunday with both teams combining for 22 hits.

The Bombers were led at the plate by third baseman Joe Urtuzuastegui’s 1 for 2 showing with a double and two runs batted in. Second baseman Chase Lyles was 1 for 3 at the plate with a RBI, stolen base, and two runs scored while Beau Snodgrass was a perfect 2 for 2 with a double and RBI.

For the Heroes, Eric DeBlanc finished 2 for 3 with a RBI and run scored while Trent Grondin went 2 for 4 with a RBI and two runs scored and D.D. Lott was 2 for 3 with a RBI. Trevor Geist had three hits in four plate appearances with two RBIs.

“Overall, we were much better offensively than in the first two games,” said NSU head coach J.P. Davis. “Both teams took advantage of the poor starting pitching on both sides and it was good to see the offenses put some runs on the board.”

Lott, a true freshman from Port Arthur, Texas, was the starting pitcher for Kelly’s Heroes while Carlos Mease, a true freshman from El Paso, started for the Bombers.

The series, which brings an end to the fall baseball workout season for Northwestern State, will continue on Tuesday with game four scheduled for an 8 p.m. start at Brown-Stroud Field.
