LEXINGTON, Ky. — Junior Troy Frazier and freshman Cory Farris hit home runs to highlight a Kentucky baseball fall intersquad scrimmage on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Frazier’s long ball was a two run, opposite-field shot to right in the first inning. It was the second homerun hit by Frazier in intersquad scrimmages this year. Farris’s homer was a solo bomb over the tall right field wall in the fourth inning. Farris, a native of Florence, Ky., had two singles, finishing the day with three hits and two RBI.
Kentucky received great offensive production from several other players as well. Junior outfielder Keenan Wiley had two singles on the day and scored a run in the third inning. Andy Burns, a freshman from Fort Collins, Colo., turned in a big day with a two-run single in the first inning and finished the scrimmage with three hits. First baseman Will Campbell plated an RBI in the fourth inning with a double down the right field line. He also scored a run in the third inning after being hit by a pitch. Sophomores Brian Suerdick and Chris Bisson each had two singles. Suerdick scored three times in the scrimmage, while Bisson scored twice and recorded an RBI.
Several pitchers had great days as well. Clint Tilford, Alex Meyer and Logan Darnell pitched a shutout for the Kentucky blue team allowing only three hits and striking out seven. Freshmen Sean Bouthilette and Braden Kapteyn posted good numbers for the Kentucky grey team. Bouthilette, a native of Elizabethtown, Ky., allowed two hits and recorded one strikeout in a scoreless second inning, while Kapteyn pitched a hitless sixth inning striking out two of the three batters faced. Other pitchers that saw action were junior Gunner Glad, freshman Chase Greene, senior Jonathan Huff and sophomore Nick Kennedy.
The scrimmage lasted six innings and was part of the Kentucky Baseball parents day festivities. The festivities included a sit-down meal for parents and players as well as a meet and greet with coach Gary Henderson. Parents were welcomed out to Cliff Hagan Stadium to watch base-running drills, batting practice as well as the inter-squad scrimmage.
