Freshman Blair Wright picked up the win for the Blue team as he worked 2.2 innings in relief of starter Nathan Baker, holding the Red team to one run on two hits with two walks and a strikeout.
Scott Bittle picked up the save as he worked the final inning of the game, holding the Red team hitless while striking out two batters.
Kyle Barbeck suffered the loss for the Red team as he worked 2.0 innings in relief of starter Phillip Irwin, but gave up five runs on four hits, including the grand slam from Henson. Barbeck also struck out one and walked two. Irwin held the Blue team to two runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts in his 4.0 innings of work.
The Red team struck first in the second inning when Jeremy Travis got his squad on the board with a solo shot to right field, giving the home team the 1-0 lead.
The Blue team answered in the bottom half of the inning, pushing two runs across as Michael Snyder came up with a two-RBI single to right field, scoring Matt Snyder and Henson. Snyder and Henson reached on back-to-back singles before both players advanced on a passed ball.
The Red team moved back into the lead in the top of the third, pushing three runs across as Brett Basham came up with two RBI on a line drive to left field before Cullen Kight pushed a third run across on an RBI groundout back to the mound. The Red team held a 4-2 lead after the third.
Another run crossed the plate for the Red team in the top of the fifth inning, pushing the lead out to 5-2 as Tim Ferguson scored on a fielder’s choice Cullan Kight. Ferguson walked before moving to third on a double to right field from Evan Button. The Blue team then intentionally walked Basham to load the based for Kight.
The bottom half of the fifth saw the Blue team gain the lead for good, however, as Henson came up with his grand slam. Zach Miller and Logan Power opened the inning with back-to-back singles before a walk of Scott Haltom loaded the bases. The Blue team then got Matt Snyder to fly out to center field before Henson notched his hit to give his team a 6-5 lead.
The Blue team then added another run in the seventh with a solo home run from Michael Hubbard for the 7-5 win.
The two teams will take the field again today at 2:30 p.m. at Oxford High School as the Blue team tries to secure the Fall World Series Title and the Red team seeks to force a decisive game three on Sunday.
