WASHINGTON, DC – In a game dominated by pitching, junior Curtis Eward gave the Blue Team a 2-1 victory in Game 1 in the Buff & Blue Fall World Series. Eward doubled home fellow junior Will Cooper on a 2-0 offering from Sophomore right hander Tom Gately. Cooper also singled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth of the scheduled seven inning contest.

Four Colonial Pitchers combined to strike out 28 hitters. Leading the way was sophomore right hander Eric Cantrell, who picked up the win. Cantrell struck out nine, while only giving up two hits and one earned run over four innings. Cantrell retired the last 10 batters he faced. Gately was dominating before Cooper’s base hit as he allowed just the one run on three hits in 3 and 2/3 innings. Gately also struck out seven.

The Blue team got on the score board first after Cooper walked and Eward doubled down the right field line. Eward advanced to third as Cooper was thrown out at the plate. One pitch later Freshman Olli Mittag hit a Sac Fly to Center to score Eward. The Buff team answered in the fifth as Junior Jon Chirumbolo doubled off the left field wall and scored on Senior Matt Boyd’s single to center.

The two teams will continue the annual series Wednesday October 29 at Barcroft Park with a first pitch slated for 3:30
