Combining a dominant pitching performance with an early offensive explosion, the Maroon Team took the final game of the ULM baseball team’s annual ‘Blood Series,’ 5-0, Tuesday afternoon at Warhawk Field.

Tony Dischler kept the Gold bats in check, allowing only one hit and a total of three baserunners in six innings of work for the victory. Cade Bowen worked the final three innings for the save, allowing four baserunners all via the base on balls.

Jon Prevost gave the Maroon team the only hit they would need after launching a solo homer to right field on the first pitch of the game. Four batters later Josh Gill added a two-run shot to give the designated visitors a 3-0 lead.

Maroon (2-3) added a run in the second inning before Gold starter Scott Stephen and the bullpen were able to settle in. The Gold team, the winners of the series after claiming three of the first four games, held the Maroon squad off the scoreboard until the ninth inning when Jordy Poche added an RBI single to make it 5-0.

Prevost finished the game 3-for-5 with his fourth homer in five games this series while Gill tallied a game-high three RBI off a 2-for-5 performance from the plate.

Matt Laird finished with the only hit of the game for the Gold team.
