Mississippi State Fall World Series starts Wednesday

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Fans can get a preview of Mississippi State’s 2009 baseball team next week at Dudy Noble Field when the Bulldogs put the finishing touches on their annual fall baseball practice with the Maroon/White World Series.

The four-game intrasquad series is open to the public and opens Wednesday (Oct. 29) with a 4 p.m. contest. The series continues Friday and concludes Sunday.

A pair of freshmen, lefty Nick Routt of Silver Spring, Md., and right-hander Devin Jones of Eupora, Miss., are the scheduled starting pitchers for Wednesday’s series-opener.

Junior right-hander Ricky Bowen of Jasper, Ala., is expected to draw starting duties in Friday’s 6:30 p.m. Halloween night matchup opposite sophomore Forrest Moore of Baton Rouge, La.

State, with 20 lettermen, eight starting position players and 10 veteran pitchers returning from last year’s 23-33 edition, opens its 2009 baseball season and the John Cohen coaching era at State Feb. 20-22 at Dudy Noble Field with the BankFirst Baseball Challenge.

Prior to Friday’s contest, Mississippi State baseball’s support organization, the Dugout Club, will hold its annual fall dinner beginning at 6 p.m. dinner in the Griffis Boardroom adjoining the Palmeiro Center. Also on Friday members of MSU’s Diamond Girls squad will be on hand at Dudy Noble Field distributing Halloween night treats to young fans attending the scrimmage.

The Maroon/White World Series is scheduled to continue Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in advance of the 1:30 p.m. kickoff of the Mississippi State-Kentucky football game and then conclude Sunday at 2 p.m.
