The South Carolina baseball team continued its final weekend of fall practice with game two of the Garnet & Black World Series on Saturday afternoon at Sarge Frye Field. Trailing by one run, the Black squad scored single runs in both the fifth and sixth inning to rally to a 6-5 victory to even the series with the Garnet team. The rubber game is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at 1:30 pm at the new baseball facility.

Freshman outfielder Austin Ashmore finished 2-for-3 for the Black team with a home run, three RBI and the game-winning run in the bottom of the the sixth inning after a leadoff double. The Black team was also featured by junior outfielder DeAngelo Mack, who collected two doubles and scored two runs as well as sophomore utility player Parker Bangs, who finished 2-for-2 with a RBI, walk and a run scored. Reliever Patrick Sullivan hurled two scoreless innings of relief to pick up the victory.

Senior Andrew Crisp went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and junior infielder Jeff Jones was 1-for-3 with a homer and two RBI to lead the Garnet team. Adam Crisp also went 1-for-3 with two RBI for the Garnet squad at the plate.

The Garnet & Black World Series capped off a full day at Sarge Frye Field that included the South Carolina Alumni Baseball Game earlier in the afternoon. Over 84 former players, coaches and support staff made it out to “The Sarge” and played six full innings of baseball. Featured in the game was a home run by former Gamecock Tripp Cromer (1987-89).
