Anytime that Texas and Rice get together for a baseball game in the regular season or in the fall neither team likes to lose. There was a very nice crowd at the Dell Diamond today to watch these two teams get after it. Texas got on the board in the first when Tucker(#2) drew a lead off walk off of Rice starter Ryan Berry. Tucker moved to 2nd on a steal and then on an error on the throw from Diego Seastrunk took 3rd base. Tucker came on in on a ground out to 1st.
Texas countered with Freshman Taylor Jungmann (#26) who went the first two innings and kept the Rice Owls off balance throughout his appearance. Jungmann looked very comfortable out in his first start as a Longhorn. Berry on the other hand had trouble locating his pitches as the Longhorns were able to scratch across two more runs in the 3rd on a error by Holt.
Both Coaches were coaching as if this game was a Regional game rather than a Fall Game. Matter of fact this game reminded me of the Regional Game in Houston. Where Texas was able to scratch across a few runs on the errors by Rice but Rice was able to maintain its composer to win the Regional game. The same thing happened today. Texas jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the game but the pitching staff was not able to maintain the lead as Workman worked two innings but gave up 3 runs. Freshman Sam Stafford who came into the game and had trouble locating the Strike zone. At the end of 9 full innings it was Rice 9 and Texas 6.
I left in the 12th with Rice up 13-6 and a sunburn.
I also have a few videos in the link below with some pictures from the day.
