Charleston Southern Head Baseball Coach Stuart Lake has announced the addition of former CSU pitcher Stan Kowalski to the staff for the 2009 season. Kowalski will serve as the pitching coach for CSU.

Kowalski knows all about CSU baseball, having played for the Bucs from 1991-95 as a pitcher. Kowalski left the program as the school’s all-time winningest pitcher with 23 career victories and held the record until 2004 when R.J, Swindle surpassed the mark.

“I am very excited to have Coach Kowalski leading our pitching staff,” said Lake. “His passion for pitching is topped only by his love of the players and CSU. Before I was ever offered the job at CSU, I knew that Stan was the guy I wanted to be my pitching coach. As former battery mates, I know how competitive he is and that is what I want my pitching staff to be like.”

After graduation, Kowalski became the pitching coach for the Fort Dorchester High Patriots in North Charleston for three years before returning to Charleston Southern as assistant athletic director for operations and facilities. He spent seven years in that post, while at the same time, starting his own baseball training indoor facility, Pro Level Sports.

Kowalski left CSU to devote his full-time energy to his business, which is the only indoor baseball and softball training facility in the Lowcountry. He has trained and coached numerous players from youth age all the way to college and professional pitchers.

Kowalski jumped at the chance to join his coaching staff when Lake was hired last summer.

“My heart has always been with the Buccaneer program and this is an exciting opportunity to give something back to the University and the program that helped me so much as a student and player,” says Kowalski.
