Jeff Pickler was added to the Arizona coaching staff on Monday morning coming over to the Wildcats after being with the Arizona Diamondbacks as an advanced scout and consultant since 2006. He spent eight seasons in the minor leagues getting time in the Milwaukee Brewers, Texas Rangers, and Colorado Rockies systems after a collegiate career at Cypress (CA) College and Tennessee. The full press release is available here. The Arizona Daily Star also has an article about the hiring which you can read by clicking here.
This is an interesting hire for Andy Lopez since Pickler has zero coaching experience at the collegiate level. He does have experience as a player but how will that transfer over to coaching young men day in and day out. We see in San Diego State head coach Tony Gwynn who struggles to teach young men the great game of baseball.
Do you think we will see more scouts transitioning to the coaching ranks in the coming years?
