Teams have been set for South Alabama’s annual Red and Blue World Series, head baseball coach Steve Kittrell announced Friday. Game one is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Stanky Field.
Seniors Ryan Bohanan, Chris Davis and Greg Johnson headline a Blue team with eight seniors on the 21-player roster. They’re joined by nine freshmen, one sophomore and three juniors.
David Doss, Derek O’Reilly and Brandon Sage are the only three seniors on the 20-player Red team roster. They’re joined by three freshmen, four sophomores and 10 juniors. Half of the 10 juniors on the Red roster are newcomers to the Jag program.
“This group’s been working really hard and we’ve had a good fall to this point,” Kittrell said. “They’re getting really excited about competing against each other under the lights and in uniform, and we’re all excited about the parents being able to watch the webcast.”
Every game of the Red and Blue World Series will be webcast with live audio and video on www.usajaguars.com. Fans can access these games free of charge as a promotion through Jaguar Nation.
Though South Alabama has played six intrasquad scrimmages in the first two weeks of fall practice, the World Series will be the first time the Jags play in uniform. Kittrell said he’s looking forward to seeing how the newcomers perform under the lights. Saturday will be the first time for 18 of the 41 players to play in a USA uniform.
“We’re still a team that has a lot of learning and growing to do, so hopefully this will give us some things to look at and learn from,” Kittrell said. “I expect us to be a very excited group that will get after each other for this best-of-seven series.”
